1891

Brixton House Institute, a middle school- inaugurated by MCTM family to impart English Education in Purasawalkam, Chennai.

1906

Maria Montessori started her first classroom, Casa dei Bambini, in San Lorenzo district, Rome for 3-6 year old children.

1909 – 1912

Her work evolved, Dr. Maria Montessori observed children developing deep concentration and self-discipline. She began formal teacher training in 1909, and by 1911 Montessori education had entered public schools in Italy and Switzerland. Within a few years, Montessori schools had spread across Europe and beyond, marking the beginning of a global movement.

1915

It was in Gujarat that there was the first glimmering of interest. Mahatma Gandhi mentions a visit to a Montessori school in India as early as 1915 in Amreli, in Saurashtra.

1929

Sir Muthiah Chettiar's Family takes charge of the school. The school was run by MC Chidambaram Chettiar in Madras (now Chennai).

In 1929, Dr. Montessori and her son founded the Association Montessori Internationale or AMI in order to create clear standards around Montessori education and teacher training around the world.

1939 – 1949

Dr. Montessori is invited to Chennai (then it was Madras Presidency) by the Theosophical Society of Madras. She develops the Cosmic Education during her stay in India.

The MCTM group branches out to make the Montessori school in a colonial bungalow. The first Primary environment starts.
