Our Story

Enabling Happy Beginnings

Like the former colonial property that is now home to Brixton House, the roots of the school, in spirit, date back to 1891. The name Brixton House was chosen by the founders in memory of the institution in which the MCTM family first showed its interest in education – a middle school started 132 years ago to impart English education in Purasawalkam.

Back then, Sir Muthiah Chettiar had taken a special interest in the school and provided funds for its functioning. Later, in April 1929, when requested, the family formally took charge of the school under the care of MC Chidambaram Chettiar, the son of Sir Muthiah Chettiar.

Today, Brixton House is a happy Montessori school full of fun and laughter where happy little children discover their bright side, in an environment that nurtures their in-born creativity.

The Minds Behind Brixton House

Joseph M. Daniel, Co-founder

Mr. Daniel is a firm believer in the Montessori philosophy and is of the opinion that the role of an educator lies in harnessing a child’s natural urge to explore, experiment and learn. He believes the ideal educator for today is the one who plays the role of a facilitator and collaborator than a mere pedagogic dispenser of knowledge.

An empathetic soul, Mr. Daniel does his bit to make the world a better place by making people more aware of their positive potential. Brixton House is but the beginning of the realization of his dream to turn people towards positivity by helping them harness their true potential.

Nandini Valli Muthiah, Co-founder

A creative person at heart, Mrs. Nandini pushes the conventional envelope whenever she sees constraints for growth and positive life expression. She believes in sustainability and sustainable growth as the mantra for a better world and considers the holistic development of the child as the primary role of school education. She respects the wisdom of the conventional and the liberating potential of the non-conventional, especially when it comes to education. She continues to be fascinated by all facets of learning be it language, science, art or sports.
